The Coffee Company

If an army marches on its stomach, then the lifeblood of any office is a regular intake of caffeine. Understanding the need for employees to indulge in their love of coffee, Christo Konig’s The Coffee Co specialises providing in automatic coffee machines to the workplace.Christo says that the majority of his machines are placed free-on-loan, with clients paying for what they drink. The company’s franchise network owns the equipment and maintains it on a weekly basis, to ensure the highest standards in service. He says that he has been in this industry since 2003, initially as a franchisee of the company, before realising what a golden opportunity the business offered, and deciding in 2004 to buy a 50% stake in the business. He adds that since both he and his partner come from systems implementations backgrounds, they bring a passion for good service delivery to the company.According to Christo, the company roasts its own range of coffee beans through specialist roasters in Cape Town, while its milk powders and hot chocolate was developed specifically for the Coffee Co and is manufactured in SA. He says that this is the first step towards his ambition of becoming the preferred automatic office coffee service provider in SA, with around 50 franchises nationwide. However, achieving this ambition will require assistance in the form of a business mentor, as well as a proper marketing strategy and a cash injection to be able to place more machines at clients across the country. Ultimately, adds Christo, he hopes to join forces with a large catering company, in order to be able to really take the market by storm.
