Teamwork is the key to any successful business, but how does an organisation build an effective team? It needs a company like Cany Bugler’s Tri Active Events Management and Lodge, which provides innovative and unique teambuilding programmes and adventure activities. Having extensive experience in overland adventuring, she decided to move into a different part of the tourism sector when founding her new company, saying her aim is to focus on teambuilding, team development, incentives and adventure. This is achieved through niche products and marketing, combined with a lodge and adventure centre situated in the Elgin Valley, just an hour from Cape Town. She states that while her main customers are companies and businesses looking for teambuilding, conferencing, accommodation and incentives, she also services travel agents, professional conference organisers, tour operators and local and international tourists seeking accommodation and adventure activities. Her biggest challenge is the size of the lodge and the conference centre. – Cany says that there is a need for a larger conference venue to accommodate both day conferences and overnight groups, as well as a boost in capital to enable the company to implement some of its more dynamic ideas for extreme adventure activities. Nonetheless, she strongly believes in the business model and has, as her next goal, the development of a thriving lodge with high occupancy all year round, along with increased capacity for conferencing and accommodation. She also aims to develop a successful multi-faceted earning capacity to minimise the inevitable low season dips. What excites her most of all, she says, is that if she can achieve these goals, she will be able to contribute to job creation in the region, providing training that will help to empower staff coming from a grass-roots level.
