Entrepreneurs may occasionally wake up crying like babies, but, according to Greg Gallagher, there is no reason parents of a new-born baby should do the same. He explains that, as someone who has always been passionate about technology and believed that South Africans have what it takes to make world-class products in the technology space, he put his money where his mouth is when he launched Snuza International. “New parents are often sleep-deprived and anxious about their sleeping baby, waking intermittently to check breathing. I have therefore developed a product that allows parents to sleep peacefully knowing their baby is being monitored. Snuza’s mobile baby breathing monitors help to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and give parents peace of mind. Snuza products give parents instant knowledge of life-threatening problems and therefore the best opportunity to save their baby,” he says. Greg adds that Snuza is now developing a new range of products – the first ‘baby wearables’, which connect to a smartphone and allow parents to monitor breathing, body temperature and body position. These wearables will set off an alarm when thresholds are exceeded. I want people to know that this small South African company is going to make technology such an integral part of parenting that in years to come people are going to wonder how they could have lived without it, in a similar way that we now wonder how we would do business without email. We are already finalising an EU Medical Device certification, which will open up many opportunities in Europe, and this will ultimately help us achieve our goal of becoming the leading supplier of baby monitoring devices worldwide,” he concludes.
