Aqua4Life

Biography

Health and happiness in a single glass of water Aqua4Life provides filters that eliminate 99.9% of impurities, meaning they are able to deliver truly clean water to some of the developing world’s most marginalised communities. Christopher Columbus famously said: ‘water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink’. It’s just a pity he never had the opportunity to use Aqua4Life’s water filters to make things better for his crew. Nico Germishuizen says that he built the business on the philosophy that one should ‘be the change you want to see in the world’, which is why he now provides filters that remove 99.9% of impurities to projects focused on marginalised communities across the developing world. “We relish the prospect of helping thousands of people in Africa obtain access to clean water via our solutions. When you think that some 700 million people in the developing world have no access to clean water, the need for products like ours has never been greater,” he says. Having come from an environmental, health and safety background, Nico says it was when dealing with the mining, manufacturing, industrial and domestic environments that he saw how water was being wasted, abused and disregarded, which gave him an edge when it came to developing the value proposition for Aqua4Life’s water filtration products. He adds that he now hopes to establish Aqua4Life as the pre-eminent portable personal water filtration solution across the continent and beyond. “What motivates me? Playing a role in saving a life that may turn out to be the next Gandhi, Mandela or Thuli Madonsela, although there is enough joy to be gained simply from seeing the pleasure on a young child’s face when they take that first sip of truly clean water. Looking ahead, I want to ensure that we get all the ‘pieces’ in place so that we are able to effectively monitor manage, plan, replenish and keep projects ongoing and alive, in order to keep citizens – especially the youth – healthy.”
