Getting the right reaction! While most new businesses will offer customers a solution, Kevali Chemical Group is unique in that its solutions are its business. According to Funeka Khumalo, there was a gap in the market for a black-owned company that manufactures and supplies customised solutions and industrial chemicals, specifically for the hygiene and sanitation, water treatment, chain lubrication and adhesives markets. “Kevali Chemicals manufactures and supplies chemicals, lubrications and adhesives to FMCGs and water boards. We assist in ensuring good hygiene standards are maintained and also in treating waste water and potable water. Where we set ourselves apart is that the company founders have experience in both the food and beverage manufacturing sector and in the chemicals industry,” says Funeka. She adds that there are five partners in the business whose backgrounds are in the critical industries Kevali focuses on, giving the business a more than a 100 years of experience in total. The company’s chemicals are used in a variety of sectors, and she explains that there remains a lot of untapped potential supplying to industries like the automotive, mining and paper, as well as to entities like hospitals, refineries and municipalities. “Our goal ultimately is to see Kevali Chemicals among the biggest players in the country and the continent. Our first aim in this respect is to break into the top five chemical companies in SA, and then to develop our footprint across the rest of Africa. In addition, we aim to foster the talents of young, up-and-coming black scientists and engineers, with a particular focus on women,” concludes Funeka.
