Zenzele Fitness Group

Biography

A really healthy business opportunity Every businessman hopes to own the fittest company on the market, but Tumi Phake has taken this desire to a new level, with Zenzele Fitness Group. He explains that as an avid sports person he quickly fell in love with the business side of fitness. Zenzele targets corporate, university and government clients, and then brings in employees, students and/or members to join their gym facilities through pre-marketing and ongoing sales and acquisition campaigns. “Basically, Zenzele is a gym management business that operates gym facilities on-premises at businesses, tertiary education institutions and government entities throughout SA. We offer fully wrapped, customised wellness solutions – including gym design, fit out and operations,” he says. Over the past four years, the company has grown to the point where it owns and operates 13 fitness facilities around the country. Its clients include several blue-chip companies in the health, mining and financial services sectors, as well as top universities like Wits. Tumi says that he is driven by the impact the business can have on the burgeoning chronic disease burden facing the country, using the power of physical activity as both a prevention and treatment modality. “We see rapidly growing demand in the market, and have been able to significantly increase our go-to-market strategies. Zenzele vision is to run 50 facilities within the next five years. And to be able to create over 500 jobs within the next 10. Our ultimate goal is to be a Pan-African business that runs over 100 fitness centres around the continent, and we are already starting to explore options in countries like Kenya, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Mauritius.”
